The weather was perfect, the entertainment was amazing, and the support from the community was phenomenal. At 2:30 PM, thousands of little yellow rubber ducks were put into the fast flowing Reedy River while a large number of onlookers watched and cheered the ducks as they raced over the falls to the finish line.
The Reedy River Duck Derby is made possible each year by the generosity of many local sponsors who provide cash, prizes and services donations.
The 2016 Grand Prize sponsored by Publix was a year’s supply of groceries. Second Prize, was a children’s playhouse donated by Home Depot and Habitat for Humanity. Many more fabulous prizes were awarded to the first ducks to cross the finish line.
The Rotary Club of Greenville Evening, a service organization of local business men and women, holds the Reedy River Duck Derby annually as its primary community service project. This is the 12th consecutive year that the group has organized this charitable fundraiser. Rotarians traditionally develop community service projects to address many of today’s most critical issues, especially children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy and violence. Rotary Club members worldwide work to achieve the key Rotary objective of “Service above Self.”
The Rotary Club of Greenville Evening is proud to announce it will move forward with another spectacular race on May 6th, 2017 with the goal of racing 10,000 adopted ducks over the falls to benefit many local and international organizations.
